Sun Holdings is the fourth largest franchisee in the US, operating over 1,000 stores for chains like Burger King, Popeyes, GNC, T-Mobile and more. K2 was selected to transform what was an REI retail store into a two-story, freestanding office building for the company’s new headquarters. This project included building a new exterior façade and required extensive structural steel work including expanding the second floor mezzanine, relocating the main reception stairwell and constructing a new private stairwell with an associated building entrance exclusively for the top local executive’s office.
The most complex construction effort involved building a completely new structural steel skeleton inside the building and rebuilding the south elevation. This scope was added onto the project once construction had already commenced due to the building being structurally insufficient.
