DALLAS – K2 Construction, a Dallas-based, general contracting firm, announced the completion of Compass Datacenters’ first data center facility in Franklin, Tenn. The 21,000-square-foot, 1.2 megawatt stand-alone facility was completed on an aggressive six-month schedule and faced unexpected weather complications during Nashville’s wettest winter, cutting the construction schedule by 38 percent. The facility utilizes Compass’ patent-pending, energy-efficient architecture to deliver sustainable operations and low operating costs, while using state of the art modular construction methods.
“Completing the Compass’ data center facility in just six months was a challenge of its own and our construction team navigated flawlessly throughout the process to deliver the project on time, especially with the ongoing rain delays,” said David Danielson, partner at K2 Construction. “Our commitment to delivering high-quality results and meeting deadlines is what sets us apart and what made the construction of this Gold LEED-certified facility possible.”
Located in suburban Nashville, the Compass data center facility was designed and built to the Uptime Institute’s Tier III-certification standards. In addition to the aggressive schedule, the uniqueness of the project included thefact that large modular portions of the MEP systems were built in a factory in Texas and then shipped almost 650 miles to Tennessee. This required extensive cooperation and coordination with team members scattered across the country. The wet weather caused work to stand still for 45 full days with a total impact of 69 work days. These unexpected delays required a stronger collaboration between the K2 Construction and Compass teams to maintain critical deadlines.
